Offering work for sale (optional)
The Sydney College of the Arts does not permit works to be offered for sale, but will refer interested buyers to Ausglass. Ausglass requires the artist to provide recommended retail price (exclusive of GST) for each piece included in the exhibition and to indicate if the work is for sale or not. GST will be added to the retail price of a sale where an artist is registered for GST and the artist’s ABN number will be recorded on any tax invoice issued. If sold, Ausglass will deduct any GST and a commission of 30%. Ausglass will be acting as the artist’s agent in any sale made as the result of a referral.
Each artist must advise Ausglass if they are registered for GST and provide Ausglass with their Australian Business Number (ABN), or a form declaring their status as a hobbyist [an ABN Reporting Exemption available at any post office or Australian Taxation Office]. If this information or the form is not provided then Ausglass is required by law to deduct 48.5% of the wholesale price (known as PAYG Withholding Tax) when a work is sold and forward it to the ATO. The Ausglass commission and GST will also be deducted from sale proceeds. Members who are unsure as to what their GST or ABN status is should discuss this matter with either the ATO or their financial advisor.
